Dirk Bell's work often reflects on the relationship between civilisation and human nature.
Dirk Bell (b. 1969, Munich) lives and works in Berlin. Bell’s practice questions our attempts to make sense of the belief systems and structures that control our world. The artist employs a variety of linguistic signs across drawing, painting, and sculpture in his arresting multimedia installations.
Working with technology and the iconography of contemporary life, his work is infused with myth, symbolism and emotion and creates a compelling field of visual ideas. His pieces often reflect on the relationship between civilisation and human nature, questioning the presence and absence of freedom and love in today’s world.
Bell has presented solo exhibitions at the Kunsthalle Bremen (2014), Pinakothek der Moderne, München (2011), BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art, Newcastle (2010) and Schinkel Pavillon, Berlin (2009).
